12-11-8 Flood

Looking towards Kaiaka Park, this is what the beach looked like. Things got worse as you will see in a couple of pictures. Pardon the date on these pictures. The flood took place on Thursday 12-11-08. It started at 02:30am and was flooding by 04:00am. We were up most of the night. Then we saw the devistation as it began floating in.

Off in the distance, we saw there were two Kayaks floating out there.

Here Life Guard Mitch Richardson working at Alii Beach that day spots the Kayaks outside and calls me to see if we can store them here at the Condo until the owners show up to identify them. Turns out the owner of the Kayaks was a family friend of ours. How cool is that?

It's right about 6:00am in this picture. Rubbish from the rivers is just now fronting our condos and starting to come ashore.

Here's what it looked like when the rains started directly in front of the Condos.

Here comes the rubbish. Clear water on the inside just before the storm drops its fury.

And then the rubbish lands on our beautiful beach.

Here's what it looks like when looking towards Alii Beach.

Here's what it looks like now directly in front of the Condo.

Now here's what our shoreline looks like looking towards Kaiaka

Condo from Google Earth

If you like, you can click onto the picture and navagate around in it for a close up view. Now I say that this channel next to our condo's was "IN FACT" man made. Whereas I should have said, "IT CERTAINLY DOES LOOK MAN MADE"! I have no idea whether or not it was man made, but what do you think? Maybe somebody out there someday can validate or verify how the reef took that shape!

So now you can show where you live or where you took that Hawaiian vacation. Notice the beach and the grassy area? It's clean! No more nuts and leaves.

Flooring

First you're gonna want to find out if your floor is level. In this case, look at the thickness of the thinset in the center compared to the edges. Notice the chalk lines he made to square the wall with the front entry layout?

Even the living room was off level and had to be dealt with. Imagine if this tiler didn't level the rooms how the finished flooring would have turned out? Look at the thickness of the grout on the left side compared to that of the right side!

Next you're gonna want to find a common wall to start your layout. Here this tiler chose the wall line since his cut line will be easier to look at as it transitions into the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen.

See how smooth the transition was from the hallway into the kitchen?

Second, there is Laminate Flooring
Here in this first picture the laminate flooring started to shrink. Was it installation or was it a material defect. This was the best of the best of flooring in this model. It was considered Hotel High Traffic grade. It was installed by a certified installer.

A patch was removed from the flooring and sent back to the manufacturer who analyzed the materials.

Expansion joints were installed and it appeared that all the work was done properly.

After a short time, the installer called the unit owner to say that the entire flooring will be removed labor and materials at no cost to the homeowner. That was today Nov. 11, 2008. It appeared that the materials were in fact a factory defect and that the contractor did nothing improper in his installation. Everyone took a sigh of relief that the material manufacturer stood behind his product which is why this Resident Manager always applauds and supports contractors who live up to their warranties. This particular flooring contractor is: Jesse Oguma. He has a 3 man crew and can be reached on his cell at 864-9034 or his office at 484-5898 or his Email at truecraftsman@hawaii.rr.com He doesn't say it in his ad, but he is also certified by the Material manufacturer which in this case is Wilsonart Laminat Flooring.

Repairs to the damaged planted part of Parking Lot B seemed to be a perfect spot to announce the Condos date of Original Construction.

Here's a close up.
